To start X-ray equipment:
Cold Stream:- Check lN2 level in big dewar. If below 1/4, fill the small dewar manually and take large dewar for refill
- Check lN2 level in small dewar. Do not operate if the level is below 6.
- Turn on AD51 dry air unit
- Turn on cryo controller and program COOL to 100K - this is the default after restarting. The controller automatically HOLDs at 100K after it gets there (20 mins).
Detector:
- Pilatus 300K requires a constant stream of dry N2 gas - it will not work without it. Via the flow guage on the cryo stand, verify that the flow rate is ~30 cc/min and doesn't exceed 50 cc/min Check the N2 gas level in either the N2 cylinder or lN2 dewar (follow the gas line to its source). Fetch a new cylinder, or refill the dewar, via the loading dock if it's out. N2 gas is essential to protect the detector. Do not operate without it.
- Use the XGControl software to control the generator: XRAY oN to spin target and attain low power (20kV 10mA)
- Increase power slowly to max 40 kV and 30 mA via the SET button in XGControl (5 kV or mA/30 sec)
At End of Run:
- Program cold stream END to 300K at default 120K/hour
- When the cold stream reaches 300K the controller should show SHUTDOWN - turn off the dry air system and the cryo control box
- Use XGControl software to slowly reduce generator power to 20 kV and 10 mA - leave it at this resting state
- Clean up the hutch and computer room, modify iLab reservation if you used more/less than your reserved time
